What is an override?
An override modifies a requirement or restriction for an individual student. Overrides are used to change the outcome of an audit. They can be used to substitute applicable coursework, allow an otherwise excluded course to count (typically as an exception), or adjust the number of hours required for the rule, among other functions. Overrides are required for proficiency/portfolio requirements and on course seeking requirements with the "Proficiency Override" box checked.
What is a waive?
Waiving a requirement exempts a student from that requirement. A waived requirement will display as being met, and no coursework appears as fulfilling a waived requirement. For example, a college might waive a proficiency or portfolio requirement if the student is deemed exempt from the requirement.
Waiving a restriction allows any course that would have been excluded by that restriction to count.
Catalogs and levels
Overrides and waives are catalog-specific. If a student changes catalogs, it is up to the adviser to determine if any of the student's overrides needs to exist in the new catalog and manually add/update as needed.
Just like regular requirements, overrides and waives exist at certain levels, and they permeate even as you drill further down into the degree plan. Performing an override on an LA-level rule in a given catalog will allow that override to exist on every LA degree plan (but not the LS degree plans) for that catalog.
