Notes/ Action
Items:
Progress Towards Degree: The initial PTD formula is
complicated and does not really reflect the student’s progress toward the
degree. The PTD calculation included many elective hours and did not show an
accurate percentage for incoming freshmen. For example, some PTD calculations
estimated 170 hours needed for degree even when the degree only required 120. The
numbers were skewed up front, and did not show freshmen on pace. The PTD calculation
adjusted as students fulfilled more requirements and the number of electives
decreased.
The new PTD/TTD formula better reflects the student’s
progress toward degree: (See attached handout)
- TOT-HRS-COUNTED-FOR-DEGREE
COURSE-REQUIREMENT-HRS-LACKING = TOTAL-NEEDED-FOR-DEGREE
- If TOTAL-NEEDED-FOR-DEGREE LT
TOTAL-DEGREE-PLAN-HOURS
Move TOTAL-DEGREE-PLAN-HOURS to
TOTAL-NEEDED-FOR-DEGREE
(This will accommodate any
allowable electives that may be needed to meet the
TOTAL-DEGREE-PLAN-HOURS.)
- (TOT-HRS-COUNTED-FOR-DEGREE
TOTAL-NEEDED-FOR-DEGREE) *100 = PTD/TTD
Action Item 1: Run
some tests in Qual to review the new PTD/TTD formula and provide feedback by
next Thursday, August 8, 2013.
The curriculum flags were intended to be used with other
requirements, but not guaranteed. Do colleges want to eliminate the curriculum flags
from counting towards hours lacking?
Action Item 2: Provide
feedback by Tuesday, August 6, 2013 if we are going to eliminate the curriculum
flags from counting towards hours lacking.
The new calculation should not show 100% if courses are
lacking.
For testing, we ran audits in Qual for all types of students
in several degree plans and compared the percentages to what is in Prod. The
new formula better reflects the student’s progress towards degree.
Action Item 3:
Test the new PTD/TTD formula in Qual and provide us with examples by Thursday,
August 8, 2013. Provide examples of students who have met all specific degree
requirements, but have not met the upper-division hours or total residency
hours requirement. Please send these UTEID’s and degree plans as soon as
possible for further testing and consideration.
Student Planner: As part of the fall release, the
Office of the Registrar is currently working on the new version of the student
planner in IDA 2.0 with navigable links and tabs on the page. Advisors can view
the planner and click on each tab, but cannot add courses unless they are
logged on as a student. While still in the testing phase, we hope to move this
up to production soon.
08-10 Catalog: In July, colleges were sent a list of
students with profiles in the 08-10 catalog. Was this list helpful in terms of
coding the 08-10 catalog?
The Office of the Registrar plans to sunset NRDEGR September
2014. We will follow up with the colleges to see if we can provide any
assistance.
The School of Undergraduate Studies is ready to go live with
the 08-10 catalog, and the College of Liberal Arts will be ready to go live in
the fall.
Next Steps:
Next meeting will be in September.
