Transcriptable Minors: Shelby Stanfield attended the meeting to provide more information on transcriptable minors and address any concerns or questions the colleges might have.
There is a proposal in place to define the minor as an academic credential that would be recorded on the student’s transcript. The minor will be offered effective for the 2016-18 catalog and will be indicated on the student’s official transcript if all the requirements for the minor are met.
Departments will not be required to offer a minor, but departments that choose to offer a minor will have to go through an approval process and follow CUDPR guidelines. Curricular requirements for the minor will be determined by the academic unit offering the coursework and the minor requirements will have to be specified in the undergraduate catalog.
The criteria for a transcriptable minor are as follows:
1) The transcript recognized minor will have to be completed in conjunction with the undergraduate degree and will require between 15-18 hours of coursework as determined by the departments.
2) Minors must be a valid field of study and students cannot earn a certificate or major in the same field of study as the minor.
3) Current legislation requires that at least half of the required coursework be completed in residence.
Effective for the 2016-2018 catalog, the college that the student is enrolled in and the college that owns the minor or certificate will have to verify that all requirements are met. The minor will have to be in the same catalog as the major, and advisers will have to run the major and the minor together to get an audit.
We are replacing the current system, and hope to have the machinery in place fall 2016 to support transcriptable minors. For the first iteration, we will keep it straight forward.
Discussions concerning the transcriptable minor will continue and colleges will further have opportunities to address any concerns or issues.
In-Progress Stamp: The degree audit now displays the in-progress stamp when the course is for a past or current semester and does not have a grade. This includes past semester study abroad courses with no grades.
