Scheduling Final Exams
- Instructors determine if a final exam is required for their course.
- Instructors report directly to their departmental final exam scheduler if they intend to offer a final exam prior to the start of the semester.
- Departmental final exam schedulers report final exams to the Office of the Registrar early in the semester.
- Final exams for synchronous classes (classes with an assigned day and time) occur as posted on the respective course schedule's final exam page.
- In most cases, instructors teaching asynchronous online classes should not be offering a synchronous final exam.
- Final exam details are made available to the campus community by the 20th class day in fall and spring and the 12th class day in summer.
- The final exam search opens as final exams are published.
- Instructors communicate final exam requirements with their students.
- Instructors administer final exams at the assigned time and location.
On Final Exam Days
Using the celebrated entrance (with UT ID) is crucial. A Google map showing the location of each celebrated entrance can be found here.
If there are any issues with locked rooms, please contact facilities at 512-471-2020.
The Office of the Registrar manages General Purpose Classrooms (GPCs), but not departmental rooms. If a final exam is offered in a room that is not on the Registrar's GPC list, it is likely scheduled in a departmental room; please ensure the department responsible for the room has it ready and unlocked.
If unable to access building or room with facilities help, call UTPD at 512-471-4441 then chose option 9.

D&A Accommodations and Student Conflicts
The Campus Testing Center can assist with scheduling make-up times for students or additional time for D&A accommodations. Departmental final exam schedulers can email scheduling@austin.utexas.edu to reserve a small GPC for a makeup exam or D&A accommodations if the instructor does not wish to use the Campus Testing Center.
Exam conflict guidelines:
- Regular exam + uniform exam conflict: The student should take the regular exam and take the uniform exam during its scheduled make-up period, as a make-up option is already provided.
- Two regular exam conflict: The instructor who scheduled a non-default exam time is responsible for providing an alternate exam time that accommodates the student.
- Two uniform exam conflict: The student should take one exam during its designated make-up exam period.
- More than three exams in one day: The student may petition the instructor(s) to allow them to take the exam on an alternate day. Students should ask the instructor of their latest two-hour exam time(s) on days they are scheduled for more than three exams for an alternate exam day. Instructors cannot require students to make up an exam on a day that would cause the student to exceed the three-exam limit.
