Enrollment certification

Verify degree & attendance

A certification is an official document that confirms attendance, awarded degrees, current and past enrollment, expected graduation date, Texas Success Initiative status, available test scores, cumulative GPA, and other parts of a student academic record. Official certifications are printed on security paper with the University seal and the registrar's signature.

Why would I need a certification of enrollment?

Students may need certification of enrollment to defer student loans, to provide proof of enrollment for their health insurance, to verify degrees for prospective employers or to show proof of academic standing to enroll in another institution.

My loan servicer is requesting a letter of enrollment status, what do I do?

If your student loan servicer is requesting your enrollment status, inform them that the information is available at the National Student Clearinghouse. If your servicer still needs a deferment form processed, bring the form to the Office of the Registrar. We will send a certification with your form to your loan servicer.

What is directory information and who can access it?

Certification of directory information may be released without the student's written authorization. The University of Texas at Austin defines directory information as local and permanent addresses, dates of attendance, enrollment status, school and major field of study, classification, earned degrees, expected degree date, and similar information.

How do I grant release of my restricted record?

If a student has chosen to restrict his or her directory information, a written release from the student is required in order to process the request.

Certain confidential information may be released only with the student's written authorization and signature, in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974.

How can a third party request student verification?

The University participates in the National Student Clearinghouse Core Service for deferment of student loans and verification of degrees. Employers and background screening firms should contact the National Student Clearinghouse to request printed verification of attendance and degrees.

How do I verify degree and attendance online?

Verify your degrees and attendance online if you are a current or former student of the university.
