How IDA works.

IDA compares all of the courses on your official academic record to computer-coded requirements from the university's catalogs. The result is an estimate of your status in meeting these requirements. » to top

Updating an audit. Check the date your audit was run. If changes to your record, such as the addition of transferred courses, a new semester's registration, planned courses, or exceptions approved by your dean, have occurred since your last audit was run, you need to create a new audit for those changes to be included. To do this, create an audit based either on your profile or an existing audit. » to top

Viewing an audit. You may view audits that you have requested or audits that have been prepared for you by your adviser. Each audit shows your progress toward meeting program requirements at the time that audit was created.

If your dean has entered any exceptions to your program, you should select an audit run under the catalog and program under which those exceptions were granted.

When you have selected an audit, you may choose several formats for viewing:

  • A summary of requirements and your progress in satisfying them.
  • A detailed report of your progress completing specific degree requirements.
  • The same detailed report of your progress, formatted for printing.
  • A list of remaining requirements for your degree.
  • A list of courses you have taken that do not count toward your degree.
  • A list of courses you have taken that do not meet specific degree requirements.
  • A list of all courses on your record at the time the audit was created. » to top

Creating an audit. To create a new audit, select the Create option from IDA's main menu. You may choose to create an audit based on your major advising code, rerun an existing audit, or create an audit for another program that is supported by the Interactive Degree Audit system. If you create an audit for another degree plan, you should be aware that IDA does not check to see if you have met the requirements for admission to restricted programs or if you are eligible to claim the catalog you have selected. Contact an adviser in your area of study or your dean's office if you have questions about your eligibility to enroll in a specific program or to claim a specific catalog.

New audits are generally available within fifteen minutes of your request; it usually takes longer during registration. If more than six hours has elapsed, contact the degree audit section in the Office of the Registrar at 475-7618 or send an e-mail message to degreeaudit@austin.utexas.edu.

After you have registered each semester, adjust the courses on your planner, then create a new audit to see if your courses will apply to your degree as you expected. Any courses you do not complete satisfactorily will not fulfill degree requirements. » to top

Using current, future, and planned courses. All audits include courses on your record for past semesters. Some audits will include your current courses, courses for which you have registered for future semesters, courses from your planner, or some combination of these, on the assumption that you will pass those courses with the required grade. If you do not complete the courses satisfactorily, they will not fulfill program requirements. » to top

Using the IDA planner. The IDA planner allows UT Austin students to project courses that they might take and prospective students to enter courses that they have taken to estimate how these courses will apply to a degree at UT Austin. Enter courses using one of the options on the IDA Planner Menu, then create a new degree audit asking that your planned courses be included.

Use of the planner does not register you for courses or mean that the courses you have listed will actually be offered the semester you have indicated or that you will be able to enroll in those courses. Some courses are offered infrequently or only in certain semesters. See planner instructions for more information. » to top

Printing an audit. Follow the Print Audit link on the left side navigation bar, or the View Audit Options and Audit Detail pages. For best results, set the browser font small.

You should be aware that if you are printing in a public area where one or more printers are shared with other users, the confidential information about your courses and grades may be seen by others in that area.

UT Austin students may also request a printed report of degree requirements from an adviser in the dean's office or department that offers the degree program for which the audit was created. Some offices require a day's notice to produce a printed audit. Use the Advising Resources option to locate advisers. » to top

Logging off. When you have finished using IDA, log off to protect the confidentiality of your academic record. » to top
